  • Management out of touch. A terrible experience with live band during supper is an understatement.. The staff had to apologize for something out of their control. I'm still in shock the Manager hid in the back as people asked over and over for a little quiet during their meal.
We will never, ever walk through the door again!

  • Order: Dried out Filet Mignon

  • I'll start with a little pretext to be fair. I was at 'The Ivy' for my sisters wedding supper. Her now husband and her had been here befor and quite liked this restaurant, and for that reason booked one of their private lounges months in advance for their wedding supper party of about 35 people.
I am from Saskatoon I grew up there but have lived in Vancouver for the last 6 years so I knew nothing about this restaurant coming in.

The atmosphere was quite nice, A very downtown lounge feel, a bit busy with so much cramed into such a small space especially around the Bar. Our private room was nice, but too small for a group of this size. The restaurant had made special menus and the limited menu had a good selection.

The group all ordered their food around 6:30pm, It wasn't until 7:00pm befor anyone recieved their salads. I had the caesar salad, it came out without a single crouton and extemely limp salad, which seemed odd because my granfather sitting beside me I think had more croutons then lettuce. this I wrote off as a misnomer in anticipaton of my entree.
However that didn't come for over an hour.

not a single entree made it's way into ou private room until 8:15. From 7:30 till 8:15 we made many attempts in asking our servers where the food was, as we had the bride and grooms reception and dance to get to by 8:30pm. starting at 7:45 they kept telling us it was coming out of the kitchen any moment. By 8:10 the grooms hypo-glycemic sister and mother were shaking and actually left the restraunt to get somthing to eat and I went to go talk to someone about what was going on.

I didn't want to upset my sister anymore then she already was so I went to the bar outside our lounge and asked our server to bring the manager to come talk to me.10 min later and after asking the bartender to get the manager finally she came and pretty much told me "oh, well there's nothing we can do about it now, this is not our usual standards and oh look there's your food now." So at 8: 20 I returned to our room to be greeted by a cold plate of beef and vegetables, My mothers plate of shimp and scallops was also cold and the scallops were so sandy they were not edible. Almost everyplate was luke warm at best, although my steak was actually medium rare it too was cold.

At this point I was livid I went back to the manager and explained the ridiculous timeline of our evening and asked what they were going to do about it. She said she would talk to the owner and get back to me. Everyone pretty much just scarfed down their food as we were all extremly hungry and extremely late for the cake cutting and dance. I continued to wait for the manager and when she came back and told me the owner had agreed to take 10% off the bill I pretty much took that as a slap in the face and asked to talk to the owner. I can atest to the other reveiw that mentions the owner as vindictive and rude. (although at this point I will admit I was not on my best behavior either.)

So finally by 8:50pm the owner came to speak with me and after explaining my disappointment he refused to show any level of empathy, and took no ownership of the situation at hand. He basically blamed us for not ordering the second we got there told me about a big party the restraunt was putting on later that night, I guess an excuse for not coming to talk to us, and when I said if this happened to me and my wife at any other restaurant our meals would be comp'd he called me crazy and then refused to talk to me to the point of shoving his hand in my face.

At this point I had to go as I was to be MC'ing the reception we were now late for. But I heard the groom eventually did get a better discount then 10% I think 25% but Needless to say I will never be going back to 'The Ivy' on my trips home, I would not recommend it to you. I agree whole heartedly with the first review, This Owner does not deserve your support.

  • Order: house salad, ceasar salad, fillet mignon with roasted mushrooms, shrimp and callops, and maple chicken

  • This restaurant serves Mako shark - a threatened species. The owner knows that but when advised turned angry, mocking, vindictive and threatening. Please avoid this place. He does not deserve your support.

  • The atmosphere is quite impressive and the presentation was excellent. But the food was slow, cold and somewhat bland.

When comparing the Ivy to other restaurants in the same price range it doesn't measure up. The focus seems to be on the decor ( WHAT BATHROOMS!! ... ) rather than the food.

  • Order: Halibut, rack of lamb.

  • This is Saskatoon's best kept secret. Completely out of this world decor, exotic menu (that's not over-priced), and open-concept kitchen so you can see what environment your food is being prepared in. Classy, but not pretentious. Adult oriented, but not snobby. And wait till you see the Washrooms!!
They even have a couple of private rooms for corporate/private functions. AMAZING!!

  • Order: Calamari, Mussels, Lamb, Filet Mignon, Steelhead Trout, Eggplant Parmesan
