  • I find that a review will really depend on what you order here. Once I ordered the angel hair pasta and it was not good. Someone I know ordered a chicken wrap but it was too dry.

However..last time I visited pickle barrel, I enjoyed the food. I had Italian sausage penne. During my first bite, I thought it was nothing special and something that could be made at home, but I really did end up enjoying it. I love the fact that pastas come with a salad, so it's well worth the money (was about $13). And I do enjoy their caesar salad.

  • Our appetizer was rather small, but excellent (I am really sensitive about puny portions). My meal was outstanding. Lastly, you gotta hand it to Pickle Barrel for being so technologically advanced. Robot waiters! Who knew.

And while I recommend the Gallo white zinfandel, it's definitely not a dinner sort of wine.

  • I didn't even get around to ordering from this restaurant... the carpets on the floor were dingy, the tables and menus were covered in filth, there were spiders coming down from the ceiling... do I have to continue? A complete cesspool!
This was years ago. I hope they've cleaned up their act since then...

  • I went here when it first opened up a couple years ago and had a terirble experience, swore to never come again.

It took almost 45mins to get our salads, and when they arrived, they didn't even have dressing on the side. We had to wait an additional couple mins for the dressings to arrive.

Our burgers took another 25mins to arrive after we finished our terrible bowl of mixed greens, and we just about walked out.

Second time, a couple weeks ago, was walking by and starving and sick of fastfood my guest and I decided to stop in; TERRIBLE IDEA!

Another very, very long wait for everything (drinks, apps, salad, main dish). They main dishes were cold, although flavourful.

WORST RESTAURANT EVER -- Mainly due to the terrible service! This place has got to have the absolute worst service ever!!!

  • I've been here a few times and it's been decent. This time however was horrible upon horrible. The hostess was the server and she didn't smile once. She sat us under overhead construction where wires were hanging down above us. The restaurant only had a few tables being used so there was no reason to sit us there. She only came to take our order and other than that we didn't see her at all. The food was ok, but my ravioli was undercooked and the shrimp pasta had almost no sauce. We've ordered this before and it was fantastic so theres no excuse for it being bad this time. We waited for 15 minutes for the server to come back with the bill and I had my card out waiting. She came quickly from behind and grabbed my card and walked off. She didn't even give us the bill before charging us. She had a bunch of credit cards in her hand and mixed up which table they belonged to. I ended up paying for another tables meal and they paid for mine. The cards were the same and this was an easy mistake but it wouldn't have been made if she had gotten us the bills first. The restaurant didn't notify the bank either, it was the table who got my card that did. Since it looks like my card, I didn't suspect anything so I didn't call the bank to cancel it. The other table did however, but two days after the mix up. Now I have to go back to get my card.

Oh, and two tables walked out after waiting half an hour to be served drinks. Even when they walked out, no one even looked up or cared that they left.

Horrible experience. I'll be fighting to have a refund after this mess.

  • I've given them too many chances...

I've been a few times now, with different sizes of groups, and despite a wonderful internal make-over, and an interesting menu, the service is horrible, and the food unpredictable.
I blame it on entry-level servers, and a high turn-over, but the hostesses will ignore you, and not inform a server when they seat you- the servers are not knowledgeabe about the food or cocktails, and haven't got the timing down for quality checks, refills and other obligatory duties.
It's too bad; there food and drink menus, aswell as dessert really are interesting and unique

  • Some may immediately question the choice to order an item off of the Pickel Barrel All Day Breakfast Menu, but, I'm a huge breakfast food fan, and I thought "if they're doing an all day breakfast, maybe it'll be decent."

Of course I usually go for the Eggs Benedict, because, for those of us who are into Bennies know, it's a tough beast to get right. Simple in concept, tough to deliver.

And Pickel Barrel certainly did not deliver. I've had a better Eggs Benedicts at a cheap 24 hour truck stop diner -- you know, the kind of place where the waitress asks if you want gravy with your pancakes, and that also sells cute stuffed dolphins and dream catcher rear view mirror mobiles.

Seriously if you can't make better hollandaise sauce than you get get from a powdered packet, the least of your worries is that you've got a serious problem with your chefs, and you certainly should not be offering an all day breakfast menu.

Somehow the two eggs were poached to totally different consistencies, one medium-hard, and the other I-forgot-I-was-cooking-rock-hard. Of course I didn't ask for a specific poaching level so that's my fault, but being a bit of a Benny freak I generally assume the default to be medium poached. I shall not make that mistake again.

The meal came with some potato cake things that were the best tasting part of the meal, but nothing to write home about. There was a skewer of fruit as well, and of course they used nothing but cheap fruit (that wasn't even that fresh): melons, and cantaloupe mostly, plus a quarter piece of strawberry. Come on!

The service was also not much better than the food. We had a pregnant woman with us, and they made us walk around a crazy maze passing by tons of empty tables, and then back to the front of the restaurant again, where a different waitress took us on another hunt to find some elusive perfect booth for 4 that was somehow better than the other free and clean booths that looked identical to it.

That being said, the rest of my group enjoyed their food, and the ambiance is nice. Comfortable booths and attention to detail in the interior design effort -- makes for a nice atmosphere, but it really has that "chain restaurant" vibe to it so I can't give full marks on ambiance.

I'm sure my review numbers may skew the results on this place a bit -- I can't speak to the non-breakfast food which I sure hope is better, but it's really their own fault for offering an all day breakfast menu without the egg skills to back it up.

Worst Eggs Benedict ever. Terrible service. Typical Chain Restaurant. Overpriced. Not recommended.

  • Wow. This was certainly an experience. I've been to this restaurant many times, and normally it's fairly decent overall. The food is usually pretty good, the menu selection is quite large, and the service is usually friendly.

Our waiter this time was fantastic. He was very friendly, quick and responsive. The food was pretty average, although my ribs were pretty dry and fatty.

The real adventure started however, when I found a piece of steel wool mixed in with my french fries. I asked my waiter what it was, and he, quite responsibly, appologized profusely and told me he would look into it. A few minutes later the General Manager (not just a manager, but the General Manager) came over to my table. He told me that although it was harmless (steel wool?), he was sorry it came on my plate. He said they'd give me a cappucino or espresso to make up for it.

I always thought it was common practice to comp a meal when a foreign object makes its way into it and is found by the customer... but apparently not here. I generally don't like making a scene, and after all, I didn't end up choking to death on it, so I decided to accept the espresso.

I like to think of myself as a bit of an espresso aficianado, and wow... I think this might have been the worst espresso I've ever had. For starters, it wasn't a shot of espresso... It was about 1/3 of a shot... When it arrived, it had no crema and was verging on cold and was painfully bitter. So, on top of putting a piece of metal in my meal, they appologized by giving me an espresso that had clearly been made 20 minutes previous to its arival, and by the taste of it, made with garbage espresso beans.

This was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had in a long time... And with this kind of ridiculous customer service, I can't see how their still in business.

  • Order: full rack of ribs, montreal smoked meat sandwich, lobster and shrimp linguini, portabello mushroom pasta, stella artois, pop, worst espresso ever

  • Ask for a round booth it's a lot of fun to sit there. The food was delicious, but making a choice was really hard because there were so many options. The menu was like reading a novel. And the service was pretty poor as far as checking up on us and making sure we had refills of drinks. One thing that I would recommend is the three types of cheesecake to end the evening, it was amazing to split and or take home.
