  • My boyfriend and I have visited this restaurant several times since we've moved into the Danforth neighbourhood - and we almost always order the same things.

The sauce they use for their penne with sausage and rosemary is delicious and the pasta itself is cooked to perfection (always al dente even when ordered for take out). It is a bit on the expensive side (~$17), but it does come with bread and a salad. I've ordered this several times to share and they have been more than happy to accommodate by splitting the portion into 2 bowls.

However, I have noticed that the quality of the pizza varies greatly depending on whether or not it is ordered for take out or dine-in. My advice would be to stick to the pizza for dine-in only - it is best served fresh out of the oven. It is definitely not as palatable once the cheese has time to sit for a while congeal.

I have also noticed on several occasions that the pizza crust is burnt/almost burnt on a portion of the pizza indicating that their ovens have uneven heat or that they did not do a good job watching and/or turning the pizza as they were cooking it.

I agree with the other reviewers on the slow service. Yes, it is a family run operation, but having to wait 40+ minutes for a pick up order is borderline unacceptable considering how chefs pride themselves on having their "mise en place" for dinner/lunch service ready.

  • We have gone to Gerrard Pizza on two occasions since it is just a walk from home. They really need to hire some help for those busy nights. The "Guy" who works the floor i think it's the owners son, can't handle all of it. The food: well it's ok but not great, where do get off charging $16 for pasta??? The pizza toppings are very sparse and again way overpriced. Two adults and two kids/ 2 glasses of wine and above food was $100, i didn''t tip the guy since he's the owner. Think he was pissed about that. By the way stay away from the Chicken Noodle Soup bland bland bland. for the best Pizza on the Danforth go to Danforth Pizza.

  • Recently I ordered a large, 3 topping pizza for pick up from Gerrard. I was blown away when the guy told me that it was $25.39 for the pizza!??!?! But I knew the pizza was good at one time so no big deal. But when I got home to eat it, it was tasteless and almost like cardboard. The crust was thin and flavourless and the cheese was minimal. The only good thing was the hot peppers, they were nice and hot!

Overall, I may visit Gerrard again for dine in pasta but will never again waste my money on an over priced, tasteless pizza there again!

  • My wife and I have been here many times over the past 5 years. The food is always good, no matter what you order. Everything is home made and that's what I like, this is not a "big box" Italian restaurant.

Only 2 real issues here. First, when the guy is working the floor, things flow pretty good, things still take time but drinks are brought in a timely manner and he is very pleasant. On the other hand, I think it's his wife or sister, when she is working the floor, stay away! She looks miserable and when there are a few tables on the go, she looks rattled. And for some reason, when she works, some part of your order will be burnt. Last 2 times we had her as our server, the bruschetta bread was burnt black and the next time, my panzerotti was burnt black too! And I'm not one to complain in the restaurant, they see what they are giving you.

My second issue is their portion to price ratio when you order one of the meat items such as veal or sausage. Over 25 dollars and you get a very small serving of food! It's still very tasty but I ain't paying that kind of money for that little food. I stick to the pizza and pasta items for sure!

With that said, please try this place. It's small, nice atmosphere and a great "date night" restaurant.

I continue to go but as we have decided, if the lady is working, we will try somewhere else.
