  • we went there to celebrate a birthday, in my family there is 2 kids under 10, they do not have any kids menus, which is Sucks!! since it's a Mexican place I ordered my 6 yr old a cheese quesadilla,(nothing else) they charged me 13.99$, When I asked the waitress about it, she just said we don't have a button for a cheese quesadilla, i said that's an outrageous price!! All she said was I know it's crazy! But claimed there is nothing she can do, and then they have the Nerve to charge 15% gratuity!! I'm SO NOT EVER GOING THERE AGAIN!! the food is just ok!! not outstanding, everything on your plate runs together, an on top of everything else you have to pay for parking too, In my mind the HUGE bill your left with, is just not worth it!!

  • Order: drinks,burritos,quesadillas

  • I was raised in the restaurant supply business, and have great respect for the blood, sweat and tears that go into the "food entertainment" business, and the food here, as well as the eager-to-please Staff, are very impressive. This was not my first visit, either, and I appreciated the cheap and cheerful break in this long Winnipeg Winter. Seems to make people very grumpy by March. Anyways, we enjoyed the use of the heritage space, the simple but bright, Mexican-style and the plentiful, fresh and nicely-seasoned food. The guacamole must have had three avocados in it, along with lovely chunks of tomato and light seasoning (I am really tired of salty food, and prefer just plain fresh), and the taco chips with dip also livened the tastebuds. We had Fajitas, which were full of meat (chicken and beef were our choices) as well as large, nicely grilled slices of onion and both green and red peppers. On another visit, the fish tacos were great. Cheap, plentiful and tasty food, large Margaritas, and awfully nice young man (Shout out to "Graham"), who could not do enough for his customers all around us, as well as ourselves. We salute you, Don Pedro and company! Viva!

  • My husband and I visited this restaurant for the first time on Tuesday. I knew it was going to be a bad experience from the time we walked in and seen NOBODY eating in the restaurant and a few rowdy's at the bar. The waitress asked us where we wanted to sit. Asked us what we wanted to drink and didn't even know if they served MGD beer. Duh? She had to look at the menu- low and behold..they did!

We searched the menu and it seemed logical to my husband and I to try the meal for two , which gave a sample of three things we usually order when we go to a Mexican restaurant. I asked the waitress if it was a good choice and she said yah, thats what most ppl order". Appeared she was not interested in asking if it was our first time here, or if we needed an explanation of the menu. NOT helpful. She left one menu UNDER the paper placemat and when I went to get my alcohol free SIX DOLLAR pina collada she placed on top...it spilled over. She brought the dirtiest, smellies cloth to clean it up. YUCK>\
Food came and she said the plate was hot. The plate, in fact was COLD AS WAS THE FOOD. Cold and the chicken inside the whatever they were, were BLACK..MICROWAVED..BURNED AND LIKE RUBBER. I never in my fifty one years tasted such horrible food. It must have sat in the kitchen for weeks. The waitress DID NOT come around to ask if the food was good till we were pretty much finished..about twenty minutes later. By then, I was totally TICKED OFF. I told her it was horrible, showed her the burned pieces of chicken and beef, showed her it was cold and she said" why didnt you tell me that before?" little twit didn't come to ask. wow, we got a dessert to share too...a tiny little flan...that was the best part of the meal.

I would NEVER EVER go back. The food is not authentic. I could get a better Mexican meal in a microwave container or from Taco Bell. I am still disgusted and worried I will get food poisoning.

The decor and ambiance was christmas lights hanging from the ceiling. The restaurant smelled musty when walking in. Not at all like a Mexican restaurant.

The owner should be ashamed to even let food like that leave the kitchen. I am going to call health inspectors because I swear there was something wrong...very wrong. That cloth smelled like rotting flesh and so did our plate.

  • Order: a meal for two...who cares..it all tasted like mush

  • From the minute my boyfriend and I walked in.. we should have walked out. I wasnt aware a hostess was supposed to scowel at the customers or have an attitude when seating people. Between waiting 20 mins for our drinks (a pepsi, ice tea and a water!!!) and then never getting them (we had to ask another waiter to be our server... yes, we had to ask someone to serve us) and the food being so awful it was practically not fit for cunsumption, I'm surprised we actually stayed to find out what the next fresh hell would be. My boyfriend's dinner was a soupy brown mess of beans and "red sauce" that turned the tortilla shell into glue. The waiter then came up to me and told me "the kitchen doesn't know what they put in your tacos, so let me know if its any good"... It wasnt, it was an oil slicked slab of fish (which were supposed to be shrimp) that practically turned the taco shell transparent. In retrospect, I'm shocked that we didnt walk out then and there.
Do yourself a favor, DO NOT EAT HERE -DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.
"Don Pedro" should hop back on the donkey he rode in on and head back to the boarder he came from.

  • Order: Ice tea, pepsi, water, shrimp tacos (but ended up with fish) and a steak buritto. Would have had a dessert but... NO THANKS!

  • Salsa, brutal, i tasted just ketchup and sugar. Rice was cold and tasted stale and old. Cilantro was the right amount, i love Cilantro. Beans were burnt and chalky. Margaritas were very good. Server named Dave was awesome, and had lots of knowledge it seemed. Burrito was ok, but sauce was burnt to the plate and all across the top. Decor was entertaining, but washrooms not. I went to mens, the brick walls have spit and snot on them, smelled like urine everywhere, and i tinkled beside a cook! WTF? its like a Seinfeld episode! Brutal! He sprinkled some water on his fingers (no soap) and wiped his hands on his dirty shirt! My wife said womens washroom was also smelly and dirty. I wont be back and I'm sure not too many will either!

  • I was really looking forward to going here. Basically after experiencing disappointment after disappointment I have decided I will never go back there. My second time ever saying that about a restaurant. It was simply numerous things that added up, and this being after I was anticipating a good time.

  • Save your time and money! Better food would be expected at Taco Bell and the Taco Bell dog would have served much better!

Overpriced, salty, tasteless food. Extremely poor service - had to ask for the obvious essentials (cutlery, napkins and a clean glass).

Waitresses were sloppy looking and looked like they had just come off the beach with very short shorts and skimpy tops with flip flops, very unprofessional looking.

  • We have been going to Don Pedro's for several months now. Its one of the only places in Winnipeg that can accomodate a larger party (over 20 people)with a couple days advance booking. The place is FUN, not fancy, just totally FUN..The servers have alot of energy, the music is great, and its not the place that old stuffy people should go to. The place was packed, and our service & food was great,,& to those people who complain about the price of a beer, maybe you should stay at the Legion...or go back to the drive thru. We love Don Pedro's and our office will continue their addiction to the place

  • Whatever your conception of Mexican food is, this isn't it. Having eaten my way through Mexico, I can assure you that Don Pedro's does Mexican the way Chef Boyardee does Italian. In fact, our waiter, who hailed from Guadalajara, was practically apologetic about the food we were about to order.

That said, if you set aside the idea of "authentic" at Don Pedro's Authentic Mexican Grill, you'll still be left wanting. The food rose to the level of barely adequate. It was bland and salty. The rice was cafeteria grade par-boiled/instant rice. The pozole soup was salty and tasted as if it came from a can. The shrimp tacos contained battered deep-fried shrimp which tasted like a Chinese food order got accidentally mixed in. Fortunately, the shrimp were few and far between. The Guadalajara Enchiladas, served by our shame-faced waiter, were a dried-out, flavourless mess.

If you're thirsty, avoid the sickly sweet margaritas for $7 apiece or the vastly overpriced Coronas at $5.50 a bottle. No local beer was available on tap.

Service was passable and the decor/ambience veered more towards bar than restaurant, although it wasn't unpleasant. Most entrees were under $15.

Overall, while not a total trainwreck, there are *many* better ways to spend your restaurant dollar.

  • Order: shrimp tacos, enchiladas, pozole

  • My family loved this place...the food was great very authentic (we have been to Mexico several times), and tasted great.
Our waiter was fast and friendly and the margarita was perfect. (lime on the rocks)..
The atmosphere is quite lounge like and very casual but, I did find it a lot cleaner and nicer smelling then the other Mexican restaurant we have here in Winnipeg.

  • Order: Don Pedro Burrito and the dinner special for 2
