  • As expected, food in chain restaurants tends to be boring. But how can Trader Vic's justify their ridiculous prices? The decor makes it one of the prettiest restaurants in Palo Alto. The restrooms are ginormous!

  • To my knowlege this Trader Vic's location is one of the more 'sedate' version of the many many locations in the chain - deccorated more like a tastful hotel lobby in a Polynisian theme than the basement rumpus room of your weird uncle who used to be in the Navy.

Start with a rum drink or two at the bar and then off to the white tablecloth table and some serious eating. Food is good if not as challenging as it might have been in those the '60s.

Staff can be hit or miss but that seems to be the norm everywhere today - are we diners too easy with the tips these days?

  • We went to the place because there were many people who said it was suppose to be good. It's a pricey place and we have been looking for a nice place. This was not what we thought it would be. Food was average not worth the price. Service was below average for price. Food presentation was good but taste was not. I don't think I would go back, there are many other places with the same price but better quality food.

  • Man, I was geeked to go to this place; I love all things Tiki, and I was not disappointed. Do I care that it's a TV knockoff in Palo Alto -- NO. Trader Vics rocks; this should explain the 9 I gave it for 'Other': ambiance, decor, coolness, etc. Wish we had one in Canada...
The service was excellent -- very friendly server pointed out great drinks (although it was forgone I was going to have a Mai Tai on my first visit...sheesh). The Kamaaina (gin, 7-Up and coconut, I think), he recommended was amazing.
We ordered the Cosmo Tidbits -- which is really a Po Po Platter. It was very good. The Caesar was fresh and the grilled shrimp I had them add were yummy.
I bought some cheesy coconut-shell-mugs form the friendly folks at the front to commemorate my first TV visit.
    I will be back!

  • Classic 1960's Hawaiian themed restaurant with a huge painting in the main dining room. Scallops were large and very nicely done. Our server was, lets say, interesting. There was an error in the order (I was served shrimp instead of the scallops initially) but that was rectified quite quickly.

  • Order: scallops, various mixed drinks
